Am Ende befindet sich ein zweiseitiges Piratenlexikon, in dem die wichtigsten Begriffe erklärt sind. Neben diesem Sachwissen gibt es zahlreiche praktische Tipps, die wirklich einfach nachzumachen sind und das Sachwissen sehr anschaulich vermitteln. So sind einige Knoten erklärt, das Rezept für Zwieback ist angegeben, Spiele wie Schiffe versenken und Galgenraten wird gezeigt, eine einfache Schleuder kann nachgebaut und Geheimschriften ausprobiert werden, Anleitungen zur Konfliktlösung und -vermeidung werden gegeben, eine Bastelanleitung für einen einfachen Kompass ist enthalten und vieles mehr bis hin zu größeren Projekten wie dem Floß- und Hüttenbau. All das ist nicht einfach aneinandergereiht, sondern das lesende Kind wird direkt angesprochen und suggeriert, dass es eine Ausbildung vom einfachen Schiffsjunge hin zum Piratenkapitän durchläuft. Diese Idee zieht sich als roter Faden durch das gesamte Buch und verbindet alle informativen und kreativen Teile gekonnt miteinander. Diese Mischung ist unter den Piratenbüchern für Kinder einzigartig und sehr gut gelungen. Layout und Illustrationen sind übersichtlich und lenken damit nicht vom eigentlichen Inhalt ab.
